Prescription Verification
Use the exact contact lens prescription for each eye. This guide explains the information to provide, how verification works and what happens if details need clarification.
Ask a verification questionFor U.S. customers, a valid contact lens prescription is required for all contact lenses, including colored lenses with no vision correction (0.00/plano). Requirements in other destinations may differ. Use the exact prescribed lens and parameters.
How Prescription Verification Works
These steps explain the information needed to check your lens selection:
What Information Is Required?
When prescription documentation is requested, it must be clear, unexpired, and issued by a licensed eye care professional (Optometrist or Ophthalmologist). Essential details include:
- Patient Details: Full name of the person for whom the prescription was written.
- Eye Care Professional Info: Prescriber's name, clinic name, address, and official contact number/email.
- Lens Parameters: Exact lens brand or manufacturer, sphere power (PWR/SPH), base curve (BC), diameter (DIA), and cylinder/axis or multifocal add power when prescribed.
- Validity Dates: Issue date and official expiration date.
Note: Spectacle (eyeglass) prescriptions differ from contact lens prescriptions due to vertex distance. Always ensure you provide a contact lens prescription.
U.S. Customer Verification (FTC & FCLCA Rules)
U.S. orders require a valid prescription, including for non-corrective decorative lenses. The seller must receive a copy or complete verification with the prescriber under the FTC Contact Lens Rule.
Where prescriber verification is used, the eight-business-hour period begins after the prescriber receives a complete request. It is calculated using the prescriber’s business hours and time zone, not as eight elapsed hours. An invalid or expired prescription cannot be filled.
Providing a clear copy can help avoid requests for missing information. It does not guarantee immediate dispatch or change the order preparation time.
Official guidance: FDA colored contact lens guidance and FTC Contact Lens Rule.
Prescription Expiration & Medical Disclaimer
Use an unexpired contact lens prescription. In the U.S., prescriptions generally must remain valid for at least one year, with longer periods under some state laws; a documented medical reason can justify a shorter period. Follow the expiry date on your prescription and contact your prescriber for renewal.
